Overview
The APX Mountain View Ruck 5K is a standards-based loaded endurance event designed to test pace, grit, and discipline. Participants will carry required weight over a hilly 5K route with a hydration station at the halfway point. Results and leaderboards will be published publicly following the event.
What Is a Ruck?
A ruck is a loaded endurance movement event rooted in military conditioning: participants cover a set distance on foot while carrying a required amount of weight (“load”) in a ruck pack, backpack, or weighted vest. Unlike a standard 5K run, rucking adds a strength-and-stamina component that demands disciplined pacing, proper load management, and mental toughness. For APX events, loads are verified at check-in and must be maintained for official timing and placement.

Adult males (18+): 30 lbs
Females and minors: 20 lbs
Required Load-Carriage Setup (Choose One)
Weighted vest (recommended)

Load and Gear Policy (Participant Responsibility)
Participants must provide their own required weight and load-carrying equipment. No weight will be provided onsite.
A limited number of weighted vests may be available to rent on event day on a first-come, first-served basis (while supplies last).
If a participant cannot meet the required verified load at check-in, they will be disqualified and will not receive official timing or placement.
No refunds will be issued for disqualification due to missing/insufficient weight or non-compliant gear.
Participants may borrow compliant gear from another participant who has finished (or otherwise completed their event and no longer needs their gear), provided the borrowed setup passes weigh-in/verification before the participant starts.
Check-In and Weight Verification
Check-in opens: 6:45 AM
Official weigh-in/verification: 8:00 AM
All load-bearing setups will be weighed to verify compliance.
Weight must be maintained throughout the race to qualify for official timing and placement.
Course Rules
Participants must follow the designated course at all times.
Course cutting, shortcuts, or leaving the marked route is prohibited.
Participants must remain self-propelled at all times (no assistance, towing, or carrying by others).
Running is permitted unless otherwise restricted, but safety and control are required.
Hydration
Participants are encouraged to bring their own water. A water station will be available at the halfway mark.
